- by Serge Dzo Mawuefa Afenyiveh
My name is Serge Dzo Mawuefa AFENYIVEH, Ph.D student in Physics and Applications at University of Kara, Togo.
The first (1st) edition of the German - West African conference on the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Systems (SusRES) virtually held the 1st July 2020 due to COVID 19 sanitary issues, was the fruit of a cooperation between the Technical University of Applied Sciences (TH-Wildau) in Germany and the University of Kara in Togo, all put in the framework of the "Haw international " program conceived by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

I was awarded for my contribution “Static and dynamic evaluation of wind potential in the Kara region of Togo using artificial neural networks” at the 2nd German-West African Conference on Sustainable, Renewable Energy Systems 2021.
The prize includes a 3-months scholarship at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau.
I arrived in this warm and welcoming land of Germany on 02 August 2021 at around 11am accompanied by my compatriots Nitale and Serge, winners of the 2020 edition.

The scientific conference called German-West African conference is already organized twice for teachers-researchers, researchers, doctors and doctoral students from the West African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo). At these first two editions, students were selected following the study of the scientific papers they presented. At the second conference, I was selected for a three-month stay in Germany. This stay started on August 01, 2021 and ended on October 31 of the same year.

The University of Kara and the Technical University of Applied Sciences of Wildau in Germany have enjoyed very good relations of academic cooperation since 2019. The partnership between the two universities has materialized in the choice of the University of Kara to host the construction of a West African research center on renewable energies within the framework of a project initiated by the “Technique d” chair. 'automation and automatic energy systems' under the supervision of the Vice-Rector, Prof. Dr. Jörg Reiff-Stephan and which will be funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

After finishing my Bachelor studies in the subject European Management I travelled to Togo at the end of May, in order to work on various projects in the frame of CenRES for the next two months. In my blog you will read more about my first impressions, about the University of Kara and about my encounters with locals.
- by Johannes Thyssen Tishman
My name is Johannes Thyssen Tishman and I am a graduate of the Mechanical Engineering programme at TH Wildau. As an international student from Mexico, I have enjoyed getting to know other cultures during my studies, whether through the high number of international students or the various exchange opportunities supported by TH Wildau. My trip to Togo is a good example of this. From March to July 2021, I visited the city of Kara in the north of Togo to support renewable energy projects resulting from the cooperation between TH Wildau and the University of Kara. Updates and highlights of my trip are documented in the following blog.
